Sorry for your loss but so glad I found your Substack. I’m processing while writing about the journey of decluttering my parents” house and you have given great tips and reading material I need! 🙏 thank you!
Lots of excellent comments in this edition. I especially enjoyed your comments on Grandma’s death and the way the family rallied together in her memory. I donated some of my things to Good Will to have room for Grandma’s special treasures. I still have a few items to place where I can use and recall happy memories of her. Years ago, she introduced me to flow-blue dishes. I’m using one of those dishes of hers to enjoy my nightly popcorn. It’s just the right size for a serving. If I can figure out how to attach a picture of it on here, I’ll send it.
I am sorry for your loss of your grandmother. I truly appreciated your sharing how you and your family took the time to reflect on all your wonderful memories spent with her, the fun times, and how you each took something special to use that she loved.
My deepest condolences on your loss. I hope that the memories you have will give you comfort during this sad time. Thank you for sharing the story of your grandmothers light switch, when my grandmother passed away a few years ago I took a small porcelain figurine that she always had in her living room. Every time I look at it I think of her and I know the light switch will do the same for you. Thank you also for the reminders of joy-plotting and resetting our homes for the new season. Enjoy your Tidy Takeaways very much!!
Thanks so much for reading and I so enjoyed hearing about your small porcelain figure. Small items can hold so much meaning and can be incorporated into our homes so easily.
My condolences on the death of your grandmother. I need to read the book Swedish Death Cleaning. My parents are in their 90s, and while in good health, I know the time will come.
Also, joy-plotting. Our school is in Fall Break next week, and although not “fall” in Phoenix area, I’m planning joy activities!
my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your grandmom. I was really touched by the pig light switch - thank you for sharing that with us. Did you take the light switch as a remembrance? The death cleaning seemed like it would be very healing. - i hope you found it so. Thanks for reminder to clean out those winter clothes. I have a tendency just to throw it all in the wash and it needs a good weed through.
I did take the pig light switch! And some other fun small things that trigger memories. I even took her ceiling fan pulls. I always thought they were so beautiful. Now I have them in my home!
