I’m in a funk. Not a big, dramatic, life-upending funk. Just a low-grade, humming-in-the-background one. The kind that makes you want to plan two 40th birthday destination trips (Mine and Emily’s milestone birthdays are still 10 months and 12 months away), register for a November half-marathon in Philadelphia just so you have something on the calendar, and mix an afternoon cocktail with cold brew and a shot of chocolate bourbon liquor and take it with you to the pool.

In the span of a few short hours, I did all three.

Distraction is one of my top strategies for feelings suppression. Isn’t that healthy?

The rest of this funk confession is for paid subscribers. Upgrade today and see what happened when I stopped trying to outrun the funk and started walking right alongside it.
